Curling is unfortunately something that cowhide rugs can do

There are a number of things that might cause your cowhide to curl on the edges
Poor quality is one, but even a good quality cowhide can curl up on the edges

Basically it is caused by your cowhide drying out and the skin is contracting
This can be due to heat exposure like strong sun, heaters or under floor heating
and normally happens over a long period of time

Tame a curling Cowhide

Lightly mist the top and underneath of your cowhide with water.
You don’t need to saturate it, but just dampen

Place a towel underneath your cowhide and one on top of the curling piece

Pile up some of your heavy books on top of the curling piece and leave overnight

Or steam iron with a cloth between the iron and your cowhide

Voila no more unruly edges

If the curling continues to be a problem you can trim off the curling edges
Just use a sharp craft knife and cut from the underside of your cowhide.
Cutting from the underside cuts the leather but not the hair leaving you
a nice layer of hair falling over the edge

Designer Kirsty Mitchell of Vereer Ltd has used our gorgeous natural cowhides to create warm inviting spaces within the bar…
Along with a very eclectic mix of both new and vintage pieces…

<img src="http://www.thecowhidecompany.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/DSC068981-150x200.jpg" alt="" title="cowhide3" width="150" height="200" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-880"

Cowhide Care Instructions

Your new cowhide will be shipped to you folded in a bag, it will have some creases initially, but will flatten after a few days lying flat
Or you can steam iron your cowhide to remove creases more quickly.

We recommended that you change the position of your cowhide regularly
to avoid wear to your cowhide rug.
We also recommend that you avoid putting your new cowhide rug in direct sunlight, this will reduce the risk of possible fading, especially our Zebra Printed hides.

Your cowhide can be stuck in position with
Velcro spots or a strong double sided tape.

We recommend you give your cowhide a good shake outside or vacuum regularly. You can wipe in the direction of the hair with a damp cloth and mild soap and water. Do not soak the cowhide or get it wet. Do not wash in a washing machine or dry clean.

For removing spills

Soak up spills with a paper towel, cloth or sponge immediately

Wipe with a damp (but not wet) cloth using mild soapy solution
You can wipe and rub the hair in any direction

A solution of 1% white vinegar and 99% water on a damp clean cloth will remove any unpleasant odours and balance PH levels.
